Spring Roundup: AAA in the Community

in the community

AAA Northeast employees have been out and about a lot lately taking on charitable projects large and small.

For the third consecutive year, folks in our Information Technology department delivered care packages to hospitals and health centers across our footprint for National Nurses Day on May 6.

It was a monthslong endeavor. Employees stuffed 1,200 boxes with special treats for delivery to 34 facilities in five states. In some locations, the packages were delivered by AAA trucks wrapped with the “Thank You Healthcare Workers” message.

Packages went to the following facilities:

Connecticut: Bridgeport Hospital and Veterans Medical Center, West Haven.

Massachusetts: Baystate and Mercy medical centers, Springfield; Baystate Noble, Westfield; Cooley Dickenson, Northampton; Baystate Franklin, Greenfield; Baystate Wing, Palmer; UMass, Worcester; Codman Square Health Center, Dorchester; Whittier Street Health Center, Roxbury; South Shore Health, Rockland; and Falmouth Pediatrics.

New Jersey: St. Joseph’s hospitals, Paterson and Wayne.

New York: A.O. Fox, Oneonta; Bassett, Cooperstown; St. Elizabeth’s, St. Luke’s and Faxton, Utica; Calvary and NYC Health, Bronx; NY Presbyterian, Bronxville; St. John’s and St. Joseph’s, Yonkers; and Northwell Health, Plainview.

Rhode Island: Bradley, Butler, Hasbro, Kent, Miriam, Rhode Island, South County and Women & Infants hospitals.

Earth Day Cleanups

AAA branch employees and members from around the club participated in Earth Day activities in their local communities. From cleaning up public spaces to planting trees to sprucing up at social service agencies, they did their part to help the environment.

Upcoming Activities

Southern New England Heart Walk: AAA Northeast has teamed up with the American Heart Association for the Southern New England Heart Walk on June 11 at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. We encourage all of our nearby members to come along with us on this leisurely 3-mile walk to raise awareness about heart health. We also spoke to some of our members about their heart disease and stroke survival stories.

Jeans and Sweats Drive: Fifteen Massachusetts branches are participating in a drive to donate new jeans and sweatpants to people served by St. Francis House, a homeless shelter in Boston.โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹ Donations can be dropped off at any of these branches through May 31: Acton, Burlington, Framingham, Franklin, Greenfield, Hadley, Newton, Rockland, Somerset, South Dennis, Springfield, Waltham, Webster, West Springfield and Worcester. Our employee-led charitable giving committee also donated $5,000 to St. Francis House.

Summer Food Drive: AAA Northeast will hold its annual summer food drive July 5-30 in all branch locations throughout the territory. Thanks to member generosity, we have donated more than 20,000 items to local organizations in the last three years. All nonperishable donations are welcome, though we are working with the American Heart Association to collect more heart-healthy options. These include canned fish or chicken, beans, low-sugar fruits and low-sodium vegetables, as well as whole-grain pasta, nuts, seeds and nut butters. We hope members will keep this in mind and come out again to support this initiative.
