On the heels of months of quarantine and trying to make do with whatever we could find in our pantries, we’ve all been waiting in anticipation for the reopening of restaurants. Slowly but surely – and most importantly, safely – food establishments are phasing back into a new version of normal.
In the second week of June as part of Phase II of reopening, Long Island restaurants able to provide outdoor dining were given the go-ahead to begin serving with state safety guidelines in place. On June 24, the island entered Phase III, which allows indoor dining as well.
COVID-19 safety measures being followed in the interest of customer and staff health include requiring face coverings, adhering to social distancing rules by spacing tables at least 6 feet apart, providing and encouraging the use of hand sanitizer and using limited-capacity seating.
Because of the limits in place, reservations are currently needed to secure a spot at most restaurants. Most are also offering delivery, takeout and curbside pickup if you would rather grab and go. Call or visit the restaurant websites for more information.
From steakhouses and watering holes to date night spots and coffee shops, we’ve provided this directory of local recommendations as a starting point. Finally, you can enjoy the convenience of grabbing a quick latte or meeting a friend for a quick bite again.
The food industry was among the hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis. Support your neighborhood eateries and help your favorite restaurants get back on their feet.
