Gas Price Report: Week of April 1, 2019

The national gas price average climbs seven cents since last week and 44 cents since the start of the year.

The national gas price average continues to climb in 2019 as we enter April. This week’s average price of $2.69 is 7 cents more expansive than last week, 27 cents more than last month and 44 cents more than New Year’s Day. The price also marks the second consecutive week in which the national gas cost average is higher than at the same time last year.

“Three months ago motorists could find gas for less than $2.50 at 78 percent of gas stations. Today, you can only find gas for that price at one-third of stations, which is likely giving sticker shock to motorists across the country,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “Gasoline stocks have been steadily decreasing since early February, causing spikes at the pump that are likely to continue for the coming weeks.”

National average: $2.69

Local state averages:

CT: $2.72        MA: $2.58       NH: $2.51       NJ: $2.70         NY: $2.73       RI: $2.57
