Partnership with Feeding America® aims to provide meals at a time when summer break can bring food insecurity for children
AAA today launched its nationwide grassroots food donation campaign, aiming to provide at least 3.5 million meals to people in need; this is coming at a time when the latest federal data reports that food insecurity has reached its highest point in over a decade.
AAA selected the week of June 23-27 to focus on donation and volunteer efforts because when many children are out of school, they lose access to school-sponsored breakfasts and lunches and often experience food insecurity. In 2023 alone, 13.8 million children did not have the food they needed to thrive, and 47 million people total — approximately 1 in 7 — experienced food insecurity in the United States.
“One of AAA Northeast’s core values is to help and serve as a way of life, and this campaign is a natural extension of how we show up for our members and our broader communities,” said John Galvin, President and CEO, AAA Northeast. “By joining forces with AAA clubs across the country to fill food pantries, kitchens and plates, our goal is to make as big an impact as possible — here in the Northeast and beyond.”
AAA joins the Feeding America network, which helps tens of millions of people experiencing food insecurity gain access to the food and resources they need to thrive. Within AAA’s expansive reach, which includes thousands of dedicated associates and millions of valued members, AAA aims to raise awareness, generate donations, volunteer time and engage local communities to build a hunger-free America.
“Hunger is a challenge we can overcome by working together,” said Lauren Biedron, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Feeding America. “We are excited to join hands with AAA who understand the urgent need to address the hunger crisis and share in our belief that food insecurity is about more than food. It’s about ensuring everyone has access to the resources needed to thrive.”
Throughout June, food donation boxes are available in all 65 branches and administrative offices across the AAA Northeast territory. Employees will volunteer with members at various events, including collecting donations curbside at grocery stores, preparing food for those in need and stocking shelves at pantries.
