Corn, Colonists and Crafts – Harvest Time at Alden House
September 23, 2018 EDT
Celebrate the harvest season and visit with colonial ‘huswifes” and hearth cooks at an 18th century hearthside to explore the many uses of corn in early New England.
Eighteenth-century hearth cooks and museum educators will share food preservation techniques, tools, cooking methods and recipes of colonial days. Visitors can also help them preserve the heirloom vegetables that have been grown at Alden House and sample small bites of popular foods. There is a cornhusk doll making activity for kids.
Alden House will also be open for tours. “Harvest Time” is part of the Duxbury Food and Wine Festival. Please visit www.duxburyfoodandwinefestival.org for complete calendar of festival events.
A National Historic Landmark, Alden House Historic Site explores the legacy of Mayflower Pilgrims John and Priscilla Mullins Alden.
