In celebration of Earth Day (April 22), the Morris Museum presents the installation, Monarch Sanctuary — a proposal for a habitable urban structure for migrating monarch butterflies, Danaus plexippus, whose wild populations are being wiped out by climate change.
It examines biodiversity, ecosystems and the important role that artists and designers can play by providing solutions for the prevention of species extinction at this time of climate crisis.
Originally created by New York City design and architecture firm Terreform ONE for the 2019 Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Triennial Exhibition: Nature, the project is sponsored by BASF Corporation.
