The Suffragists: Fight for the Vote in Sullivan County

August 23

Free – $5

Women won the right to vote after decades of struggle and against strong opposition from men — and some women — who feared that the government would be placed “under petticoat rule.” Ultimately, it was effective leadership and the development of what became known as “the winning plan” that turned the tide.

Sullivan County Historian John Conway examines their strategies, the impact of World War I on the movement and some prominent local leaders, including Elizabeth Worth Muller.
