Rafael Devers burst upon the scene in 2017. Just days after making his major league debut, the 20-year-old rookie got his first career hit: a home run. It was a sign of things to come. Just a few months later, Devers became the youngest Red Sox ever to hit a home run in the postseason.
In 2018, Devers was a mainstay on the Red Sox roster. Boston won 108 games en route to capturing its ninth World Series championship.
Devers is now comfortably settled in his new home city of Boston. But long before any of his big league success, Devers was cruising around his native Dominican Republic in his first car.
What was your first car?
My first car was a Hyundai that I bought in the Dominican Republic.
What did you love most about it?
I loved it because it was a comfortable car. I felt good driving around in it. I did everything in that car. First thing I wanted to do when I woke up was drive around with my friends in it.
Was there anything you didn’t like about it?
What I didn’t love is how old it was. As a youngster who was always out and about I wanted a more modern car.
What happened to the car?
I sold it so I could buy a Jeep!
