New Jersey Student Share Traffic Safety Messages

Seven local students earned first-place awards for their artwork in the annual AAA Traffic Safety Poster & Video Contest. Students were judged in several grade categories and competed against students from across New Jersey.

Winners included:
Kindergarten
Sean Corcoran, Academy of Our Lady of Grace, Fairview

Primary (Grades 1-2)
Miah Ovando, first grade, Academy of Our Lady of Grace

Elementary (Grades 3-5)
Samantha Arteaga, fifth grade, Academy of Our Lady of Grace

Junior High (Grades 6-8)
Edwin Ortez, eighth grade, Robert Fulton Annex, North Bergen

Senior High / Media Arts (Grades 9-12)
Catherine Angeline Cepeda, 11th grade, North Bergen High School

Senior High / Audio-Visual (Grades 9-12)
Melanie Pelaez and Jordie Sanchez, 11th grade, Bergenfield High School

The winning entries were chosen from nearly 2,000 submissions received statewide in this year’s competition.

For more than 72 years, the AAA Traffic Safety Poster Program contest has aimed to reduce traffic-related fatalities through education, awareness and community outreach. Students showcase their artistic talents and share important traffic safety messages on a peer-to-peer level.
