New York City Treasures

New York City bursts with attractions and cultural activities. When it’s time to explore beyond the iconic sites, check out some of these lesser-known gems.

Fun NYC Facts

You’ll want to check out The Ride, a bus tour that has theater-style seating and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out onto the streets. Two hosts provide plenty of improv interacting with guests, the real local characters outside, and the “surprise” performers on the streets who burst into song or dance. The Ride leaves from 42nd Street and 8th Avenue; reservations required.

Peek Into the Past

Step back in time and learn the stories of immigrants who once lived on the Lower East Side at this National Historic Site. The Tenement Museum is housed in two tenement buildings, 97 and 103 Orchard St., where 15,000 people from over 20 countries lived between 1863 and the late 20th century. Tours of the restored apartments and neighborhood bring the stories to life. To add more to the experience, choose a tour with costumed interpreters.

Decadent Dessert

A super dense cookie the size of a piece of cake that is simply delicious, the dark chocolate chip cookie (there are other flavors as well) at Levain Bakery is a must try; just ask the people lining up to buy them at their three New York City locations: two on the Upper West Side and one in Harlem.
